President Goodluck Jonathan will on 16 December, 2011, launch the emblem and appeal fund for the assistance of the families of fallen heroes and veterans who survived the various military operations both within and outside the country since World War I.

The Minister of Defence, Dr Haliru Mohammed, made this disclosure yesterday when he was addressing a press conference to officially kick off the next edition of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, during which he announced activities lined up to commemorate the historic occasion.

According to him, “Quite a good number of these heroic veterans are presently hobbled and handicapped by debilitating injuries sustained in the theatre of operations.

Hence they need restorative and rehabilitative help.”
Speaking further, the Minister said another objective of the fundraiser “is to provide the major stakeholders in the management of the affairs of our heroes the opportunity to raise funds for the dependants of those who died on active service.”
