Over 400 countries gathered in Washington DC, United States, yesterday to provide a forum where multiple sectors would converge and engage in the shared dialogue that is critical to the success of the effort of many nations to spur research and revolutionise the delivery of healthcare around the world.
The summit, which attracted leaders and experts from the research, policy, business, technology and development communities, representing both the public and private sectors, as well as civil society organisations from different countries, was put together by the Foundation for the National Institute of Health (NIH) and other organising partners.
Giving a keynote address at the summit, the Secretary, US Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Kathleen Sebelius, said the US was committed to leading the world in the innovation of good healthcare, especially in the model areas of mobile technology in healthcare delivery system.
She said that one of the major problems of healthcare delivery system was lack of information by the patients and noted that most doctors wait too often for information about their patients.
