Kano State governor, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been commended for releasing the sum of N10m as part of the state government’s contributions to the development of handball in the state and the country at large. Making the commendation while addressing pressmen on the preparation ahead of the National Handball Open Championship, President of Handball Federation of Nigeria, Alhaji Yusuf Dauda, said the contribution is a clear indication that the governor is a sports loving person.
He expressed appreciation to the Kano government for the gesture as well as for bankrolling the competition in the state, saying that the federation will continue to partner with the state towards the development of the game.
The president who was represented by the director technical of the federation, Alhaji Musa Hamza said that the championship which is scheduled to hold between December 10-18, 2011, in Kano was not only to keep the HFN busy in its programmes, but also to assist the Federation to continue tapping yet to be identified talents for future international championships. He explained that it is on record that HFN has been actively involved in the development and promotion of handball at both the grassroots, state and national levels as well as at international levels. “The handball game used to be one of the most popular games not only in Kano State but also in the country at large and has excelled at various international engagements”. He said.
According to him, the federation is expecting teams from across the country both in the male and female categories to participate in the Kano 2011 tournament.
