Mbaise people under the aegis of Ikoro Mbaise Global is set to host an international soccer tournament from September 2016 tagged ‘Mbaise Unity Cup’ with prizes for gold, silver and bronze winners.
In a press release by the media officer of Ikoro Mbaise Global, Mr Ohanele Casca, the tournament will be among communities in the five clans of Mbaise; namely Agbaja, Ezinihitte, Ekwereazu, Oke Uvuru and Ahiara.
The local organizing members drawn from the clans are Agbaja; Mr. Ted Ohaeri, Mr. Chukwueke Jachi and Mr. Chiedozie Frank. From Ezinihitte Mr John Onyeneho will serve as chairman while messrs Henry Adindu Ikechukwu and Magnus Anurunwa are members.
Mr. Peter Onu, Uche Obasi and Ojoko Donatus will be representing Ekwereazu while Oke Ovoro will have Hon Ebegu Mike Ogechi as coordinator and Chinedu Ogbuni andPrince Cassidy Elugwaraonu as members. Ahiara will present Innocent Efekalam, Chief Chinedu Nwachukwu and Prince Methu Onyekwere as representatives.
The chairman/coordinator of the LOC, Hon Ogechi Ebegu, a former council legislator in Aboh Mbaise, while accepting the responsibility thanked the Mbaise nations for the confidence reposed on them to carry the task as he assured that his team will organize a historic unity tournament for his people.
The international administrator of Ikoro Mbaise Global, an Mbaise global initiative with membership across all the five continents, Hon Arch Chukwunyere Ikwu, a USA-based architect while addressing members noted that a lot of Mbaise stakeholders led by Ezuruezu Mbaise , Mbaise USA Inc., ex football internationals and sports administrators of Mbaise extraction led by Chief Pat Ekeji have all given their blessings.
He said the unity cup tournament is aimed at engaging and motivating the youths to discover their talents.
According to him, “the annual game will also expose talents to international football scouts and foster unity and spirit of sportsmanship among the communities of Mbaise.”
