Any hopes Enyimba FC of Aba had of retaining the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) trophy they won last season now hangs by a thread after the Elephants of Aba were handed a 3-2 defeat by Ikorodu FC of Lagos in Abeokuta, Ogun yesterday evening.

When it mattered most, Fatai Abdullahi put the host ahead in the 28th minute, but the champions fought back through Mfon Udoh’s 32nd minute spot-kick, after goalkeeper Adamu Azeez fouled goal-bound Musa Najare.

Ikorodu, determined to upstage the champions as they had promised, regained the lead in the 53rd minute, when Oluwole Johnson fired past Enyimba shot-stopper Theophilus Afelokhai.

Najare asnwred his side’s call again, when his brilliant 61st minute effort drew his side level.

But it was not to be a draw for the visitors, as substitute Michael Okoyoh, went ahead to make it a sour evening with the winner in the 68th minute
