NASFEST 2016: We expect robust participation – Giwa Daramola

The coordinator of water sports at the ongoing biennial Nigerian Army Sports Festival, Tunde Giwa-Daramola has told journalists in Abuja that a robust participation is expected on Friday during the water sports exhibition.
“We are expecting all the Divisions in the Army. We are expecting about 30 participants from the Army from the various formations around the country, the Navy Sailing club group and we have the federation athletes from different states of Nigeria.”
According to Daramola, all logistics have been put in place to accomodate over 30 athletes expected from the Nigerian Army, the Navy sailing club and the federation athletes coming from the different states of the federation.
He lauded the visionary leadership of the Chief of Army staff, Lt. General Tukur Y. Buratai and for showing so much interest in water sports as he expressed optimism over the future of the sport in Nigeria.
“We are very proud of the Nigerian Army under the leadership of Lt. General Tukur Y. Buratai for showing so much interest in water sports, for believing in water sports and that it is a future for the country.
From what I heard during the opening ceremony, the Nigerian Army will participate as an entity in the next sports festival holding in Abuja.”
The retired Naval officer said that with the landmark achievements recently recorded in the sport, it is a future sports for Nigeria with so much expected from the new army trainees.
Speaking ahead of the exhibition games taking place at Jabi lake in Abuja, the immediate past Commodore of the Navy Sailing Club, Lagos said, “We are expecting the new entrants into water sports i.e the soldiers we are training now to make much impact in water sports in the future.
“We are going to have competitions in rowing, kayak, open water swimming and sailing,” he concluded.
