One person escaped death by the whiskers in Lagos when a tanker laden with petrol fell and spilled its content on the Festac Link Bridge in Awuwo Odofin LGA of Lagos State consuming more than 20 vehicles and four commercial motorcycles.
It was gathered that the fire started at noon and raged for about an hour before fire fighters arrived at the scene about 30 minutes later but did not have enough water to put out the fire.
Confirming the tragic incident, the General Manager LASEMA Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu said,” A distress call was passed to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Team on 13th December 2017. concerning a tanker on fire at festac link bridge.
“Upon arrival of LRT to the scene of incident at about 12:45pm, It was revealed that a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres AGO (Diesel ) detached from its truck and fell by its side, it then later exploded due to an aftermath ignition of a commuter bus. However, no life was loss but 1 adult male sustained minor injury.
“The combined effort of the emergency responders (LRT, Nigeria Police Force, LASG Fire Service, Federal Fire Service was able to put the fire out at 2:20pm this afternoon. The inferno of the exploded tanker affected the total number of 21 cars(18 cars and three commuter buses) and 5 bikes.
“The agency’s rescue, recovery equipment is on ground to ensure the burnt vehicles are taken off the road and to restore normalcy on the road Recovery operation ongoing.
He said proper investigation would be conducted on the incident
