Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has said that 10 local government areas in his domain suffer daily attacks from bandits adding that the frequency of the attacks have made him and other officials of the state to be awake every night to receive reports from the people.
The governor spoke yesterday in Katsina when he received a delegation of the Nigerian Army and tasked the military to use technology to end banditry.
The delegation which was led by the Chief of Army State, Lt. Gen Faruk Yahaya and other top military officers on an operational visit to the state was received at the Government House Chamber by the governor
Masari said the state is infested with bandits and other criminals, stressing that security is a collective responsibility which also requires holistic approaches.
He charged journalists and other actors on social media platforms to join hands in appreciating the roles of the government and security operatives in fighting insecurity across the country.
The governor said the state government has restored the roles of traditional rulers and ward leaders to bring them on board to enthrone peace in Katsina.
Masari said 10 of the 34 local government areas in the state are under daily attacks, adding that “our phones are always on to listen to what happens in the night regarding banditry, we are not comfortable, we want the situation to be brought under control.”
Earlier, Gen Yahaya said they were in the state on an operational visit to the 8 Division Command of the Nigerian Army. He thanked the governor for the maximum support he had given to the army in the fight against banditry.
