President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday joined other Muslim faithfuls to observe the weekly Juma’at prayers at the presidential villa.
Recall that last week the president was absent for the Juma’at prayers which heightened rumours about his state of health.
Yesterday’s Juma’at prayers appearance was the president’s first public appearance in two weeks.
During the week, the president met with the attorney-general and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami; group managing director of the NNPC, Maikanti Baru; and Central Bank governor, Godwin Emefiele at the presidential villa.
However, the president missed the federal executive council meeting on Wednesday for the third consecutive time which put the rumour mills on the overdrive.
Following his non- public appearance, some prominent Nigerians have called on the president to resign and tend to his health.
LEADERSHIP Weekend recalls that on Monday, constitutional lawyer, Femi Falana ( SAN) and 12 other rights activists called on President Buhari to proceed on a medical vacation to attend to his ill-health.
In a statement, jointly signed by Falana as well as Professor Jibrin Ibrahim, Debo Adeniran, Dr. Chris Kwaja, Y. Z. Ya’u, Chom Bagu, Olanrewaju Suraju, Ezenwa Nwagwu, Anwal Musa Rafsanjani, David Ugolor, ‘Sina Odugbemi, Muhammed Attah and Adetokunbo Mumuni, said when the president returned from his medical vacation to the United Kingdom, he disclosed that he had never been that sick in his entire life.
However, President Buhari’s appearance at Juma’at service yesterday laid to rests reports in some sections of the media that he is being fed intravenously.
Among those who prayed with him on Friday included the chief of staff, Abba Kyari; national security adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno; director-general of Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura.
Others included the minister of justice and attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami; acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
The group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Baru Maikanti and other top government officials also observed the jumaat prayer in the mosque.
Meanwhile the presidency has said the permanent secretary, State House, Mr Jalal Arabi, is not on suspension as erroneously reported in some quarters.
In a statement by the deputy director, Information, Abiodun Oladunjoye, said Mr Arabi is at his desk dutifully attending to important state matters and is not under any probe, neither is he a subject of any enquiry.
