The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Works has given 10 days ultimatum to the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Nasarawa local government area, Mr.Ayuba Wandai, to completes Okoh 1, 2, 3 and Okoh 4 culverts construction in the area.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr Mohammed Okpoku, gave the directive on Tuesday during a meeting with Wandai and the Overseer of Loko development area, Mr. Iliyasu Aliyu, in Lafia.
He said that the committee decided to invite the council boss over a petition the committee received from the Paramount ruler Agatu community, the Oche Agatu of Loko development area. Mr.Ahmed Guto, over abandonment of construction of four culverts in his domain.
Okpoku, who represents Udege/Loko constituency, said that the committee would not fold its hands to watch anybody sabotage Governor Almakura’s efforts in providing the dividends of democracy to the electorates.
He has commended the governor for making funds available for the construction of bridges and culverts across the state, adding that it would open up rural areas, and stimulate agriculture and socio-economic activities across the state.
“The Complain of the Paramount ruler is that since the blending of the four projects, they were abandoned, that is why we have decided to invite IMC chairman and the overseer of Loko development for explanation,” he said.
He, however said that the committee would sustain its oversight function of all ongoing projects in local government and development areas across the state to ensure that the construction of bridges and culverts meet specifications.
The Lawmaker, added that the inspection exercise was not meant to witchhunt anybody, adding that the committee was mandated by the House as part of its oversight functions to ensure that quality jobs were done in the interest of peace and development.
Earlier, IMC chairman of Nasarawa local government area, Wandai, said that measures have been taken towards the completion of the projects.
He assured the committee of the council’s readiness to continue to key in to good policies and programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state
