Dalung Urges Youth To Embrace Sports

 Achor Abimaje, Jos
The Minister of Youth & Sport Development Solomon Dalung has urged Nigeria’s young people to embrace sports as an instrument of self-actualisation, because there would be no job or profession which would offer the kind of income which star sportsmen and women earn today.
Dalung laid the charge in Langtan, Plateau State, over the weekend, while presenting trophies to local football clubs that emerged as champion, first and second runners up in a football competition organised as part of the 2017 Tarok National Prayer Day.
Daling advised the young people to look beyond football and take bold steps towards athletics, basketball, long-jump, boxing, wrestling etc, while he called on governments, organisations and well-to-do individuals in the society to invest in sports as practical ways of empowering young people.
The highlight of the event was Dalung’s announcement of cash awards of N100,000, N70,000 and N50,000 for Kuffen United, Langtan South Cub United and the Kartako Warriors United, who came first, second and third, respectively, while a consolation price of N30,000 was given to fourth-placed Zihizhi United.
The minister later paid an unscheduled visit to the new site of the Federal Government owned mini-sport stadium, Langtan and expressed delight that work has commenced in earnest at the site.
