The 5th prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court has told Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that large sum of foreign and local currencies were recovered from the wardrobe of the apex court judge.
The federal government had re-arraigned justice Ngwuta on a 13 count amended charge, of which the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The apex court justice is one of the judges arrested by Department of State Service, DSS on October, 2016 over allegation of corruption and was consequently charged to court, on a 16-count charge of alleged money laundering and breach of trust.
Since he was arraigned, three amendments have been done to the charges originally filed in December 2016.
During the proceedings yesterday, prosecuting counsel, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Fatunde, announced the latest development to the court as to the amendment of the charge.
Justice Ngwuta pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
The additional count has to do with the allegation that Justice Ngwuta gave false information to the Nigerian Immigration Service concerning his diplomatic passport with the purpose of procuring another one.
Meanwhile, two witness were led in evidence by the prosecution counsel.
Prosecution Witness 4, a detective with the DSS, Tanimola Alao in his testimony said he only supervised Justice Ngwuta while taking his statement.
Prosecution Witness 5, John Utazi , who was part of the security operatives who conducted search on the house of Justice Ngwuta.
In his evidence in chief, he stated that when the team got to Justice Ngwuta’s house, he was at home and a search warrant was shown to him.
