Al-Makura Donates 5 Classroom Blocks, N5m To Nasarawa NUJ

Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa state has donated a block of five classrooms to the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as state government’s contribution for the take-off of the NUJ Pen Nursery and Primary school.
Almakura made the donation on Friday when he played host to the newly elected state leadership and members of the NUJ in Lafia.
He also made a cash donation of N5 million for the rehabilitation of the NUJ press centre which is in a state of disrepair and donated 20 sets of laptops to the centre to ease the work of journalists in research, filing of reports and other correspondence.
The governor who gave assurance that his administration would continue to be of assistance to union whenever the need arises, said government would provide the union with a utility bus to aid in carrying out its activities.
Congratulating the newly elected state executive under the chairmanship of Mr. Dogo Shammah, Almakura thanked the union for not participating in the recent strike in the state declared by a Self-imposed factional leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state.
Describing the recent action by a factional leadership of the NLC as “egocentric, selfish, individualistic and self-serving’ called on practicing journalists to widen the frontiers of the journalism profession in proficiency, coverage and agenda setting, especially for the social media.
