NSCIA Hails NYSC, Harps On Unity

The Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has praised the unifying role of the National Youth Service Corps just as it called on all stakeholders to strive towards strengthening unity in the country.The commendation came when a delegation of the NSCIA visited the NYSC Headquarters in Abuja.
Leader of the delegation and NSCIA’s Director of Administration, Ustaz Christian Isa Okonkwo, who delivered message of goodwill from the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the NSCIA, said the Muslims’  umbrella body was interested was advocating the entrenchment of national consciousness, adding that the interest of its members will be pursued alongside the interest of adherents of other religions In the country.
He made reference to the way the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has been traversing all parts of the country to interface with stakeholders, including traditional rulers and leaders of different faith group, and preach the gospel of peace, love and harmonious co-existence among all Nigerians. While praising the present Management of the NYSC for the achievements made in the pursuit of the Scheme’s mandate, he said the NSCIA was willing to partner with the scheme, especially with regards to its objective of fostering National unity.
Ustaz Okonkwo commended the Scheme for taking steps to meet the peculiar needs of Muslim Corps members who’s Orientation Course would coincide with the period of Ramadan fast.
He also informed the NYSC Director General of an organ of NSCIA; Mission for Education and Social Health (MESH), and sought opportunity to present awareness creation lecture on marriage and other related issues.  He requested for the involvement of corps members as volunteers to drive the project.
Responding, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman  Kazaure, expressed appreciation to the Sultan for his support to the  Scheme; especially in the area recognition and presentation of various gifts items to outstanding male and female Corps members, as well as hosting of corps members in his palace pool during orientation programmes in Sokoto State.
