Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge in Tiv Council Hall, in Beli local government area of Taraba State, have lamented serious hardship in the camp.
Speaking yesterday in Beli, the camp leader, Mr Mathew Baki, said the challenges facing IDPs in the camp include lack of water, shelter, food and exposure to all forms of diseases.
“Just yesterday, two women delivered babies here without access to medical care and one of the children died hours after delivery.
“As you can see, we are all sleeping outside in this open field and it’s been raining since we came in here on Friday.
We are exposed to all forms of diseases. We want government to end the crisis to enable us return to our homes and farms,” he said.
On his part, a traditional leader in Bali LGA of the state, Mr. Zaki David Gbaa (Ter Bali II) said 11 people were killed by Fulani herdsmen, while a one week old baby died in the course of fleeing in the Friday’s attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
He urged Governor Darius Ishaku to take urgent steps to restore peace in the affected crisis of the state.
“The governor has been working hard but we are still calling for urgent deployment of security operatives in the areas and relief materials for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are swelling the camps in Bali for safety” he added.
LEADERSHIP Sunday reports that suspected Fulani herdsmen over the weekend launched attacks on Gazabu, Kungana, Tukun Ruwa, Utsua Daa and Kpenkpen village in Beli local government area of the state.
