The Federal Government has urged female students from various secondary schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to pick interest and develop their capacity in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), saying it is the next frontier for national development.
The director-general of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami stated this at the International Girls ICT Day 2017 commemorative event organised by IBI Centre, Veritax Solutions, Media Range Limited and icom.ng in Abuja.
He said the girls with ICT skills would never be out of business because the skills are transferable which means they would be able to work almost anywhere in the world.
He said: “Looking at your age, you are all lucky to be in the digital natives circle of the world’s redefined demography by technology. You are at natural advantage of having armful of opportunities to grasp unlike the digital immigrants. Today you have the opportunity to take part in this great workshop that has been put together to stimulate you to take broader interest in ICT as you move forward with your studies and careers.”
Pantami represented by the assistant director of IT infrastructure solutions, Engr. Salisu Kaka, described ICT as really important not just because subjects like engineering and ICT are more interesting but also because they have the potential to lead them towards better careers and better life where they could make real difference and make the world a better place.
In his remarks, the managing partner, Veritax Solutions, Mr Ayo Olagunju, said they were launching a coding club, Code Trybe, where young people would be taught to code, adding that the opportunities in ICT are limitless.
