Sokoto ‘II End Medical Tourism In Nigeria Soon – Commissioner

The worrisome degree of medical tourism where wealthy Nigerians spend millions to access medical care outside the shores of the country would soon be a thing of the past, Sokoto State commissioner for Health, Dr. Balarabe Shehu Kakale  has assured.
Dr. Kakale disclosed that the state has procured and installed medical facilities which will not only revolutionize medical effectiveness and efficiency in the state but also enhance improved quality health-care service for Nigerians from across the nation.
Speaking while briefing newsmen as part of the ministry’s two years stewardship, Dr. Kakale said, the state Orthopedic hospital has very competent hands that could convincingly handle any complex fractures.
According to him, the hospitals in it’s display of competence recently conducted a very successful knee replacement surgeries for 3 patients.
The state Orthopedic hospitals recently conducted the first super speciality total knee replacement surgeries on three (3) patients in the state. Currently planning hip and shoulder replacement surgeries all aimed at reversing capital flight from medical tourism”.
Giving credence to  their preparation  towards ending medical tourism, the commissioner noted they recently reconstructed a very successful brand new functional virgina for a VVF patient.
He, however, added that, the state is recording a reduction  in the cases of Vesico-Vagina Fistula (VVF) because of increased awareness hence only 287 cases were recorded within the last two years
