The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Social Development Secretariat has entered into a partnership agreement with the USAID-funded Sustainable Mechanisms for Improving Livelihoods and
Household Empowerment (SMILE) Project to address the prevalence of violence against children in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Acting secretary of the secretariat, Mrs. Elegbede Irene Adebola,  in a press confrence yesterday, lamented that 60 per cent of children often experience one or more degrees of violence before their eighteenth birthday.
“Six out of 10 children are subject of some violence every year and majority of children who experienced physical, sexual or emotional  violence in childhood reported multiple incidents”. She lamented.
Adebola who was represented by Mrs Agnes Heart, a director with the FCTA social development secretariat, while calling on MDAs, local  governments as well as civil society , religious  and traditional leaders to key into the campaign of ending the violence against children in the FCT, also revealed that her office in collaboration with SMILE will on Saturday, 27 May launch a document that will represent the sour collective resolve to stopping the violence and all forms of abuses against children.
