Ribadu Charges Media To Stand Up Against Corruption

A former chairman of the Economic and Financial Corruption (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has called on the media to rise up against all forms of corruption, adding that corruption was the reason Nigeria was unable to address its problems and challenges confronting it.
Ribadu, who was the pioneer chairman of the EFCC, was speaking at the 12th Annual Ramadan Symposium organised by the Muslim Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MMPN), Abuja chapter, with the theme, “Anti-corruption: The Role of Media As A Change Agent.”
He said as a matter of principle journalists should be above board in their report and work in public interest.
He added that the cardinal objective of journalism which include upholding honesty, probity, fight against injustice and patriotism is in line with the teachings of Islam.
“The media have played momentous roles in different societies to tackle a number malfeasances including corruption. Such turning point interventions by the media have also occurred at different points in Nigeria. In the case of fight against corruption, the Nigerian media should continuously rise up and resist continuous desecration of our country and as the acclaimed voice of the voiceless, the media should be up against corruption in all forms,” Ribadu stated.
