BY ALO ABIOLA,
The former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Sikiru Lawal , has cautioned against viewing Governor Ayodele Fayose’s political continuity slogan as a self-serving political move, urging the people to vote overwhelmingly for whoever the governor fields in the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2018 poll.
Lawal, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the PDP, said the already established developmental stride in Ekiti will be consolidated upon as being experienced in Lagos State if the party is allowed to continue to govern the state beyond 2018.
He expressed confidence that PDP will defeat APC in 2018, hinging this on the sterling performances of governor Fayose in all areas of economic facets since he mounted the saddle in 2014.
Speaking on Wednesday while addressing some party members in Ado Ekiti Ward 9 in furtherance of the ‘Continuity’ programme of the governor, Lawal advised all the party members to display loyalty to the governor, who is now in court to challenge his impeachment in 2006.
He pleaded with the party members to support the governor to win re-election if the judgment goes in his favour.
While appealing to party members to use the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration to validate their membership, Lawal said “But we have to be vigilant and refrain from falling for the money being distributed around by APC to deceive the PDP members to defect. Let me tell you, such gift is like a poisoned chalice targeted at grabbing power after which they will start meting out punishment on the masses.
“We have not forgotten how APC debased governance in Ekiti during Kayode Fayemi’s administration as manifested in the huge debt left behind by that administration and I don’t think we can be that gullible to descend to that arena again.
“Let me also remind you of this, the most sterling qualities and virtues in politics are loyalty and consistency, so we have to remain unwavering in our loyalty to Governor Fayose to make the victory in the impending political battle resounding like
“All the governorship aspirants in the PDP, including me had suspended their aspirations until the court dispenses justice in the impeachment case filed by Governor Fayose, this is in the interest of the party and to display our loyalty to the governor”, he pointed out.
