….after impregnating their housemaid, man allegedly plots and murders his eight months pregnant wife in cold-blood
On June 2 , Irene Manghai, who was eight months pregnant while still at Government Secondary School West of Mines where she taught, was picked up by her husband, Victor Dashit to her farm- a farm he had vehemently disapproved of her owning. As it turned out, she was to lose her dear life right on the farm.
She was allegedly murdered by her husband, who after the heinous act, smartly conveyed her remains to the Air Force Military hospital, where he told doctors that she felt dizzy, collapsed, fainted and died.
The doctor who had been giving his late wife antenatal care in her eight months pregnancy rather became suspicious, as he discovered a strange fresh mark on her neck, and when Victor who was eager to collect her corpse and bury came the second day to pick her corpse for burial, the hospital following its suspicion of foul play, invited the police, who laid in wait and arrested him.
An autopsy which was later carried out on Irene’s corpse revealed that she was strangled to death with a chain and her nose was covered in the process.
Four days into his detention, her husband according to the police, allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that they had a fight in the farm, which began because she got angry with him for taking her phone call and warned him never to take her calls again.
According to Victor, that led to an argument and according to his police submission, she hit him with a hoe on his head, claiming that it was while she tried hitting him with the hoe the second time that he dodged and he found himself behind her while the hoe was on her neck, which he pressed on her out of anger, and she slumped.
The autopsy according to Irene’s mother however, rather revealed that she was strangled with a chain and that her nose was covered in the process.
Our correspondent further gathered that Victor’s resolve to do kill his wife may be strongly connected to the illicit extra-marital affair his late wife caught him pants down, having with their housemaid, which resulted in pregnancy in the maid.
The mother said she suspected that Victor might have murdered her daughter in the car as a result of their continued disagreement over her ownership of the farm and his love affair with their house girl who is now carrying a baby for him.
Investigation revealed that the deceased Irene who is a month away from her due date of delivery had only recently returned to Victor’s house following the intervention of their church pastor in a bitter quarrel they had, in which she was constantly and mercilessly beat up.
The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, Plateau State Command confirmed that Victor Dashit, 37 is being detained for allegedly killing his wife, 33-year-old Irene Manghai who was eight months pregnant.
