Ahead of the November 18governorship election in Anambra State, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  sacked all its caretaker committees in state.

The party arrived at the decision after a meeting between the Sen Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee (NCC) and leaders and stakeholders of the PDP in Anambra State.

According to the communique after the meeting, signed by the party’s spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the party said “The NCC in exercise of its Powers under Section 31, (2)(E) today dissolved all the existing factional Executive Committees of the Party in Anambra State.

“The NCC will in due course, appoint a Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of the PDP in the State pending when it will be auspicious to elect executive committees at all levels.

“To this end, all Party Stakeholders (Leaders and other Members) are hereby enjoined to bury all their differences and join hands together in unity towards the Victory of the Party in the forthcoming Gubernatorial Election in Anambra State.”

Speaking earlier, the national secretary of the party, Ben Obi, while welcoming the stakeholders from Anambra State, said “Anambra State governorship election is first litmus test for PDP to display its unity and togetherness before Nigerians. It is the first major event of the party after the Supreme Court judgment.

“Prior to the judgment a united PDP defeated the APC in Osun State.”

Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi said “We had discussion on how we can all be part of the efforts to get the PDP to effective play its role as a opposition party to help build a better Nigeria.

“On anambra he said it was a family meeting intended to resolve the differences in the party and to help build a better Anambra State.”

According to a governorship aspirant Dr Alex Obiogbolu, he said

“We resolved to win the governorship election.

The party reiterated its determination to win the election following the election we won in Osun State.

“We all in one accord agreed that we must win that election. We had crisis in Anambra state party but one unique thing today is that the meeting was short and productive and without much rancour as it used to be in the past.

“I have not seen a meeting of Anambra PDP where all the major stakeholders were gathered and there were no exchange of hot words. The chance of the party is bright and I know that with what has come out today, the party will get victory.”

Aspirant Oseloka Obazee “The meeting gave us clear guidance on where we are going. And we agreed on modalities towards making sure that by November 18the party will win Anambra governorship election.

“It is work in progress and what is important is that people need to dialogue at all junctions and that is what you have seen here.

“We have selected people from the three senatorial districts to work with the national caretaker committee to move us forward I think that is very positive.

“The chance of the party is very bright the challenges we had in the past was that of division within the party. Now that the party is under one able leadership, I think it will be easy to rally people to victory come November 18.”

Prince John Emeka, who described the meeting as a success, said the Anambra state PDP is now one big happy family and primed to go into the election with success in mind.

He said: “Anambra is a pure PDP state but in the past, we have had our differences that led to scuttling and aligning with other parties that led to defeat.

“If you look at the members of National Assembly, they are all PDP. So, we are down to the grassroots. But when it comes to the big prize, the gubernatorial, that is the issue.

“But I believe the present leadership has taken concrete steps in resolving it and the Amambrarians that are here are will to accept the steps they have taken.

“By the time we take it to the grassroots, the state will bubble and PDP stake will rise.”

Some of the leaders at the meeting include Prof. ABC Nwosu; Sen Ugochukwu Uba; Josephine Anenih.
