On day-2 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) coaching clinic sponsored by Nigeria Breweries PLC, makers of the Star brand of beer, participants have speaking on the benefits of the program. Star is the Official Beer of the NPFL.
Some of the Coaches who spoke to www.npfl.ng at the Abuja National Stadium, venue of the theoretical section of the program, did not mince words in lauding the league organisers and the sponsor of the program.
Technical Adviser of El-Kanemi Warriors FC, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Nigeria Coaches Association, Isah Ladan Bosso, described the program as a very welcome development for the NPFL.
“It is a very good step in the right direction for the clubs in the elite league, and with such development on the domestic front, the standard of the league will be on the rise technically,” Bosso enthused.
While appreciating the League Management Company (LMC) and Star for their efforts in organizing the clinic, Coach Kennedy Boboye of Plateau United FC maintained that there is no better time for such a workshop, hence it’s a win-win situation for Nigerian elite coaches.
“The timing of this program is perfect, as it affords the league coaches the opportunity to blend what they have right now with what will be acquired here.
“It is also an avenue to understand the tricks required to take my club, Plateau United to where we want to be because we are not there yet,” Boboye said.
Akwa United’s Coach, Abdullahi Maikaba also said the training is a good development but submitted that without the proper application of what has been learnt, it will only be an exercise in futility.
“The organizers have taken a giant step by bringing this program to us coaches but the bulk of the assignment lies with us; we must be able to carry out the application of whatever skills we have acquired here. That is only when we can say the clinic has been a success.
“Acquisition of technical knowledge is entirely a different ball game from the application of same. It takes effort to put what you have learnt to work.”
