BY ISAIAH BENJAMIN,
A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) trainer aircraft crashed yesterday, killing its experienced instructor pilot, who was the only pilot on-board.
The incident happened at about 4:25pm at the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) permanent site Afaka, along Kaduna International Airport road.
A statement issued by NAF’s director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, confirmed the crash.
Adesanya stated: “A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Beetle Aircraft today crashed in Kaduna while on a mission. The only soul on board the aircraft, one of the NAF’s experienced instructor pilots, was unfortunately lost during the mishap”.
He said while the cause of the incident was still unknown, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, immediately directed the constitution of a board of inquiry to determine the immediate and remote cause of the crash.
“The unfortunate incident is a tragic reminder of the hazards associated with the flying profession. The CAS and the entire NAF family commiserate with the relatives of the late instructor pilot”, he further stated.
