By: Patrick Ochoga,
Controversy yesterday has continue to trailed Government Vehicles allegedly given to Former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of plot to sweep the matter under the carpet.
This is coming barely one week when the newly sworn in speaker, Hon Kabiru Adjoto gave the embattled lawmaker two day to return to said vehicles or face prosecution.
The party in a letter copied to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Commission, ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, and made available to newsmen, said the party would not rest until the said vehicles are retrieved and returned back to the Edo State government.
In a swift reaction, the Edo State All Progressive Congress, APC Publicity Secretary, Chris Azebamwan, however dismissed that the vehicles were not missing as alleged by the PDP adding that the need to be consulted for with the state Attorney General and the Media Adviser to the Edo state house of assembly before an official position can be put forward.
“For purposes of clarity and emphasis those vehicles are not missing. They were ceded by the former governor of the state Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in his capacity as the then Governor of the state based on the political exigency at the time; so the vehicles are not missing.
But briefing Journalists on matter, yesterday, the State Chairman, PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, also disclosed that the party had instructed it legal firm, Barrister West Idahosa, to immediately commence legal process that may lead to it retrieval just as the party put the worth of the said vehicles to N138M.
Orbih Stated: “We came out last week with a statement calling on the security agencies to invite the former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole over missing government vehicles; we also call on the former Speaker, Hon Elizabeth Ativie, to explain her role over stolen government vehicle.
“Just two day ago information reaching us was that Governor Godwin Obaseki and members of his party in Edo State have concluded plans to sweep the matter under the carpet saying that they are going to treat it as an internal affair of APC. The vehicles in question belong to Edo State government and not APC. Issues bothering on state government properties must be treated with utmost seriousness.
“It is in the light of this seriousness that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Edo have mandated the legal firm of West Idahosa to swing into action to ensure that the vehicles in questions are retrieved and retuned back to government.
“It should go further and ensure that all those who are involved in this criminal acquisition of state properties should be prosecuted. From what you can see here we have given a letter of a mandate to Barrister West Idahosa dated 24th of August, 2017, and ensure that these vehicles purportedly given by the immediate past governor of Edo State to Hon Elizabeth Ativie are retrieved.
“Godwin Obaseki, must come out clean and ensure that this vehicles are not only returned but that those connected with the illegal acquisition of these vehicle are brought to book
“We are aware that the vehicle were illegally acquired are valued over N138M and we also have information that as at the time Oshiomhole left office he gave out a total number 346 vehicles bought with government money given to different people with varies interest called APC government in Edo State, this again will attract another petition from our solicitors.
