CSKA Moscow forward, Aaron Samuel has been handed a late invitation to the Super Eagles squad ahead of their World Cup qualifying match against Cameroon as a replacement for injured Arsenal striker, Alex Iwobi.
Arsenal forward withdrew from the squad with a thigh muscle strain. The 21-year-old will also miss the away leg against African champions Cameroon in Yaounde September 4 and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) moved quickly to invite Samuel, who was initially placed on the standby list.
The 23-year-old CSKA Moscow man has not figured for the Super Eagles since June 13, 2015 when he lasted 62 minutes on the pitch in an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad.
Standard Liege defensive midfielder Uche Agbo has also received a late invitation from the Nigerian Federation.
Both players are expected to arrive the national team’s training camp as from today, August 28.
Iwobi, the nephew of legendary Nigeria star Jay-Jay Okocha, had played in Nigeria’s first two World Cup qualifiers against Zambia and Algeria, scoring in a 2-1 win in Zambia in October last year.
