Nigeria’s Sport’ll Rise Again, Dalung Assures



The Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung says that Nigeria’s sports is gradually bouncing back into reckoning with the latest successes being recorded by some sports federations.

Dalung made the remark while eulogising the senior men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, for clinching silver at the just ended FIBA Men’s Afrobasket Championship held in Dakar and Tunisia last week.

Dalung said the dedication and professionalism  exhibited by the the Nigeria Basketball Federation led by Musa Kida has brought out the best in the players., just as he hailed them for a successful outing in at the championship.

“On behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari and the good people of Nigeria, I wish to heartily congratulate you on your feat at the just concluded FIBA Afrobasket in Tunisia. We acknowledge the sacrifices the  players and officials made to bring glory to our Fatherland. There is no greater sacrifice than using your energy and resources to ensure that Nigeria’s name is once again etched in silver on the continent.

“Just two weeks ago, D’Tigress won gold in the Women’s Afrobasket. Again, you have shown by this latest victory, that the first was not a fluke. You have worked so hard in training and here is the result of your hard work, team work and determination. Nigerians are proud of you and you will be rewarded accordingly at the appointed time.”

The Minister said that various sports were already beginning to yield the fruits of a tried and tested sports reforms adding that sports policies that will see an improvement in the welfare of Nigeria’s sports men and women as well as the construction and renovation of sports facilities will soon be implemented.

D’Tigers are expected in the early hours of tomorrow after clinching silver in the FIBA Afrobasket. They lost to the hosts Tunisia 65-77 in the final game played on Saturday.
