EFCC Covets Citizens Support, As AFRICMIL Launches Corruption Anonymous

The Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu Thursday urged Nigerians to join in the fight against corruption by exposing any corrupt Public Servant caught in the act of thievery.

Magu gave the charge at the Unveiling of ‘Corruption Anonymous’ the Whistle-blower initiative of the African Center for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL).
Lauding the initiative, he commended the Not for Profit Organisation and its Sponsor for supporting the federal government in the bid to rid the country off corruption.

He said, “the EFCC, and indeed all government institutions responsible for tackling corruption, cannot do it alone.
“We at EFCC believe that we do not have a monopoly of knowledge, we cannot fight corruption alone,” he added.

The Ag EFCC Boss also expressed satisfaction at the increasing responses of Whistle-blowers despite the unholy promises it holds for corrupt allies.
“Nigerians from all walks of life have seen reasons why this war must be fought collectively,” Magu said.

Addressing Stakeholders at the event, the Coordinator, AFRICMIL, Mr Chido Onumah explained that The project is geared towards mobilizing citizens to expose corrupt practices through whistle blowing as they are critical to the success of eradicating the menace.

He said, “Corruption Anonymous seeks to build confidence and support for the whistleblower initiative of the federal government; advocate for proper implementation of the policy, and institutionalization of the guidelines.”

Onumah also said the initiative seeks to “reinforce the safety and protection of citizens who dare to blow the whistle on acts f corruption. But Corruption Anonymous will do more. Apart from serving as a platform for citizens to engage in whistleblowing and interrogating the workings of the whistle-blower policy, CORA would provide the tools for the media to enhance its investigative work.”

The AFRICMIL Coordinator said although, there is still very limited awareness on the Whistle- blower policy of the government, responses from willing individuals has helped in recovering huge sums of stolen monies by greedy public servants.
