The Federal Government has said there is no vaccine for the dreaded monkey pox disease that affected many states in the country.
The disclosure was made Thursday by the Director of National Centre for Disease Control , Dr. Chikwe Ihekwazu who appeared before the Senate Committee on Primary Health and Communicable Diseases in Abuja.
The Senate committee chaired by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa had invited Dr Ihekwazu to proffer explanations on the trending news of outbreak of monkey pox in 7 states. Senate had earlier, through a motion, ordered the Director to appear before it.
Ihekwazu insisted that the agency has not carried out any vaccination against monkey pox in any part of the country since the outbreak.
According to him, the vaccine for the disease has not been discovered and that no immunisation is executed by government as being speculated in certain quarters.
He said Nigeria does not have the technology to weaponize the diseases for at the moment and advised for caution.
