The Provost of Adeyemi College of Education,Ondo ,Prof. Olukoya Ogen, has expressed optimistic that the institution would soon be converted to a university.
Ogen made the disclosure during his visit to Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ), Ondo State Council.
Represented by the Head of Media of the college, Mrs Oluseto Olatuyi, the provost noted that the converting process of the college was at the last stage at Senate.
According to him, the public hearing had been heard when the institution defended the needed of the conversion to university status for improved educational attainment.
Ogen further stressed that the college has since been operating at university level in term of learning modules, research, thereby competing with other universities’ programmes.
His words : ” The bill is at the last stage at Senate and we pray that it will have Mr President’s( Muhammadu Buhari) mercy for assent when finally passed.
” If attained the level, our responsibilities will be increased and we are up to the task,” he said.
While saying that there was need for better and improved relationship of the college with the chapel,the provost enjoined the chapel of its all-inclusive collaboration and contributions towards information dissemination.
He said, “We are primarily here to seek your support and improved relationship in any area that you can be of help to our college as it relates to information dissemination and development of the school,” he stated.
On the issue of security on the campus, Ogen said that preventive measures had been taken to forestall breach of security peace in and around the campus.
He noted that the college had installed Close Circuit Television ( CCTV) in strategic locations on the campus to measure security.
The provost also maintained that all the students had been issued mandatory identity cards to identify the authentic students of the institution.
Responding, Mr Ojo Oyewamide, the chapel’s chairman commended the visit of the provost , saying that he was glad that the representatives of the provost was the media head of the institution.
He blamed the heads of institutions for not employing experts in the management of information unlike Adeyemi College of Education,Ondo which has put the round peg in the round hole.
The chairman noted that the chapel was one and it is the soul of NUJ in the state and the country at large.
Oyewamide, therefore, said that the chapel was ready to continue to collaborate with the college to propagate its activities to boost its image and for mutual benefits.
