The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted full accreditation to five new programmes for the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure,(FECA).
A statement by the Provost of the college, Dr. Samson Adeola Odedina, stated that NBTE also approved the first ever Agricultural Value Chain curriculum in the history of tertiary education in the country.
Odedina said the new programmes coupled with the Agricultural value chain curriculum will attract young people into relevant Agricultural training essential for job creation and diversification of the country’s economy.
According to him, the accreditation exercise was conducted by the Board in July, 2017.
Odedina noted that the new development brought the total number of accredited programmes now offered in the college to thirteen (13).
He said the new accredited programmes include National Diploma (ND) in Fisheries Technology, National Diploma (ND) in Horticulture Technology, National Diploma (ND) in Forestry Technology, National Diploma (ND) in Computer Science and Higher National Diploma Pasture and Range Management.
His words: “This new opening for youth involvement in Agriculture is an opportunity for stakeholders to take advantage of the world class Federal Government facilities in the College; and sponsor young school leavers into programmes that have direct link to employment generation and diversification of the Economy.
“Also, Agricultural Value Chain curriculum in the history of tertiary education in Nigeria. This curriculum has been approved for use in all Nigerian Colleges of Agriculture and Polytechnics offering Agricultural courses: for Value Chain training expected to lead to job and wealth creation for youths in colleges and communities.
” The value chain curriculum is an output of the Switzerland Government/Federal Government of Nigeria supported Capacity Building for Agricultural Education in Nigeria (CBAEN) Phase II Project.”
While expressing his appreciation to the NBTE for the positive out-come of their visit to the institution, said the success of the exercise was confirms the College’s Management efforts in maintaining academic excellence by keeping to its promises on regular staff promotion, training and provision of welfare.
