As Nigeria moves towards another electioneering year come 2019, an unprecedented gathering of emerging political leaders in the country has been slated for the nation’s capital Abuja on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.
Organisers of the gathering tagged ‘Emerging Political Leaders Summit’ said the event will be brainstorming as it is in a bid to install a “new set of leaders” with diverse orientations, which must be channeled towards problem-solving both economically and politically for country’s development.
According to a statement issued by the convener of the EPL Summit, Comrade Wale Ajani, all roads will lead to Shehu Musa Yar’adua Center for a “nation-changing encounter” with the theme ‘Breaking the Existing Economic and Political Status Quo’.
Ajani, who is a former President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), noted that the EPL Summit became imperative at this auspicious moment in the nation’s history and it will be declared open by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN).
“Nigeria has remained a country of enormous potentials for several decades. The consensus among local and international leaders of thought is that Africa’s most populous country and largest economy ought to have performed much better in terms of human development and economic indices.
“Leadership failure is largely at the heart of the current woes bedeviling Nigeria, with little being done to build a new crop of leaders. The nation seems fixated. The citizens have come to have very low expectations of their leaders,” Ajani said.
He added that “EPL Summit will provide a platform for qualitative conversations and discourse about Nigeria as an alternative to the current system where there already exist a disconnect between citizens’ expectations and service delivery by Nigeria’s current crop of leaders.
Eminent personalities expected to speak at the Summit include Mr. Frank Nweke Jnr.; Ms Ayisha Osori of OSIWA, Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed; Prof. Kingsley Moghalu; Hon. Faruk Yabo; Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi; Arc. Ezekiel Nya-Etok; Hon. Tony Nwulu and Rt. Hon Luke Onofiok.
Others are founder and Pro-Chancellor, Baze University Abuja, Senator (Dr.) Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed; Mr. Sentele F. Barnes (IRI Country Director); President, Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema (South Africa); Mr. Joseph Busha, President of FreeZim Congress (Zimbabwe); Nigerian author, Chimamanda Adichie; Dr. Jay Osi Samuel and Mr. Tope Fasua.
