The Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on Monday described the death of second republic vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, as an irreparable loss to the country.

Akeredolu said, with the death of the elderstateman, the country has again lost one of its brightest and ebullient democrats.

In a statement issued by his Press Secretary , Mr. Segun Ajiboye, the governor said Ekwueme departs the country at a time when the ideals and social justice he used his energy and intellectual prowess to fight for in his life times have yet to be achieved.

While describing death as a necessary end, Akeredolu said ,the young generation will surely miss the second republic vice president who stood for the uprightness and unity of our dear country.

According to him, Dr. Ekwueme, a nationalist, disciplined and leader of leaders, led a group of political like minds to push the military back to their barracks during the dark days of Sani Abacha military junta.

Akeredolu who said Ekwueme will forever be remembered, noted that his roles during the dark days in the country’s political history will not be forgotten in a hurry.

Akeredolu, however, urged politicians and Nigerians in general to emulate the selflessness and patriotism of this great Nigerian.
