There was a mild drama yesterday at the home of a former director general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ekpenyong Ita, as officers of the country’s secret police prevented operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from arresting him.

LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that operatives of the EFCC arrived at the scene at about 11:00am with an arrest warrant.

But when the EFCC officials and armed policemen numbering over 50 attempted to enter the premises located at 46 Mamman Nasir Street, Asokoro, the heavily armed DSS officials refused to allow the EFCC operatives gain entry to the compound.

The mask-wearing DSS officials, LEADERSHIP learnt, simply told the EFCC operatives that they were merely acting on “orders from above”.

Ita, it was learnt, had been under investigation for his alleged role in the disbursement of funds meant for arms during the Jonathan administration.
