Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), in collaboration with a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Nka Nto Annang Foundation (NNAF) has concluded all arrangements for its second edition of Annang Festival of Arts and Culture (AFAC) tagged; ‘Our Culture, Our Pride,’ a festival for the reactivation of the age-long culture of Annang ethnic nationality of Akwa-ibom State.
President of the organisation, Ephraim Okon, made this known recently in Abuja while seeking support of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC).
Okon explained that the reason for the project was to promote rich cultural heritage of his people; explore and sell it to the world so as to make Annang land a tourism destination.
He stated that the aim is to assist government by bringing its people together to appreciate their culture, adding that they will promote cultures that are not repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience.
He added that the event would enhance economy of the people of Annang land through attraction of foreign investment; creation of jobs; and exposure to the world in terms of richness in arts and culture. Others were outburst of tourism infrastructure; packaging tour experience to the area by tourism operators; and revenue generation through the sales of arts and crafts.
Speaking to newsmen, the Director-General, NTDC, Folorunsho Coker, who was represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Corporation, Vincent Arua, commended the Foundation for the giant stride and promised the Corporation’s full support, adding that such venture would go a long way toward promotion of domestic tourism as one of the focuses of the Corporation.
