The Niger-Delta RoundTable Group has said the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima erred in his comments disregarding the various calls for the restructuring on the country, at a book launch in Abuja on Thursday, November 30, 2017.
Shettima had said, “People are talking about artificial intelligence, other nations are talking about Nano technology or robotics engineering but unfortunately, the topical issue in Nigeria is restructuring, restructuring my foot. To hell with restructuring!”
The group described the governor’s comments as regrettable. “It is regrettable that a governor would damn the calls for restructuring Nigeria for equity, peace and development. It only shows that Governor Kashim Shettima wants to continue to be spoon fed by monies from the Niger Delta.
The NDRG also described as reckless Shettima’s disparaging comments against former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Shettima had noted that “Jonathan’s fairytale rise to power, his sheer display of bad governance, lack of political sagacity and willpower, he squandered the array of goodwill he commanded and subsequently got humiliated out of office”.
In a swift response, the group noted in a statement signed by its Ondo state’s information Coordinator, Femi Lawson said Shettima is “ill-educated or willfully daft for attempting to rewrite of recent history”.
“How is a governor whose incompetence and negligence led to the kidnapping of the Chibok girls in 2014 able to open his mouth and talk about bad governance? Evidently, there is the reason to believe Shettima needs to know that Jonathan was celebrated out of office for his stellar performance and leadership.
“The Niger Delta, Nigeria and the whole of Africa remains proud of Jonathan and are grateful for his service.
