The Embassy of Korea, Nigeria, celebrated its 4350thNational Day anniversary on Wednesday. The event also marks its 37thYear of Bi-lateral relations with Nigeria. The embassy took the opportunity to urge Nigeria’s ‘best efforts’ for the peace and security on the Korean Peninsula.

Korean Embassy  Charge D’Affaires Yong-min Song, says Nigeria and Korea had over the last 37 years built a cordial relationship, which he expects will be further strengthened in the future.

He notes that Korea will maintain efforts to strengthen “the mutual beneficial relationship with Nigeria, including the cooperative partnership with state governments”.

Present to add a touch of the artistic and modern culture is the Korean Brass Band group, the Funny Bands. Funny Band is a six-man band group who each plays a different brass instrument.

A brass band is a musical ensemble generally consisting entirely of brass instrument which includes – brass and woodwind, such as horns, saxophones, trombones, clarinets, sousaphones, cornet, flugelhorn, tubas – and sometimes with a percussion section. Percussionists instruments range from snare drums, glockenspiel, timpani, cymbals and triangle.

What sets Funny Band apart is not its sourcing of harmony between the traditional and the modern culture, but its additional injection of humoristic acts, interactive connection with its mixed audience, and its assorted repertoire of the Korea popular anthem, Arirang, Duke Ellington’s jazz piece, In The Mood, and skimming of western classical music with William Tell’s Overture. Others acts of the night such as popular western tunes like Clear The Line and When The Saints Go Marching made its playlist for the evening.

The event rounded off with a treating of the audience to Korean cuisines, known as Hansik.
