The Ebonyi state Governor, Chief David Umahi, has appealed to the people of old Ohaozara political bloc in Ebonyi South Senatorial District of the state to drop their ambition for the senatorial seat of the zone in 2019.
The Ohaozara political bloc comprises Ohaozara, Onicha/Ivo Local Government Areas in the southern senatorial zone of the state in which the governor also came from.
Governor Umahi made the appeal on at his country home in Umunaga Uburu,in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state while addressing the people of Onicha Local Government Area who paid him a new year homage.
Governor Umahi reminded the zone that Afikpo North and South Local Government Areas is another political bloc in the zone adding that it would be unfair for the Ohaozara zone where he hails from to have both the governor and the Senator for the zone at the same time in 2019.
He therefore appealed to political gladiators from the old Ohaozara who have been angling for the position to shelve their ambitions and support his reelection as governor in 2019, noting that the zone people would benefit more in having him reelected as governor than producing a Senator for the zone.
Governor Umahi while ceding the Senatorial seat of the zone to the people of Afikpo bloc who currently hold the seat, also endorsed all the state and national assembly members from the area for a second term in office.
He specifically urged the people of the zone to allow the reelection of the member representing Ohaozara,Onicha/Ivo federal constituency in the House of Representatives ,Hon.Linus Abaa Okorie; the Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assemby and member representing Onicha East constituency, Obasi Odefa Obasi as well as the member representing Onicha West constituency ,Hon.Valentine Okike.
Governor Umahi added that he took the decision to allow for their reelection in realization of the fact that all the affected politicians alongside himself came on the platform of Divine Mandate ,stating that it would be unfair and against the spirit of peace to drop any them in 2019.
He also stated that the decision would lessen their fights during the campaigns and the elections proper and also brighten their chances of victory .
He assured the people that come 2023, he would bow out together with all the state and national assembly members who have served two terms and above and allow new people to take shots at the positions.
“I have noticed that some people from Ohaozara are positioning for senate in 2019. But let me remind us that Afikpo even though they have only two local government areas is zone of its own just like Ohaozara is a zone. Therefore ,in Tue spirit of fairness an dequity,it would be unfair the zone to have both the governor and the senate at the same time.
” I am begging us ,let us lesson our fights by allowing things to take its proper courses. We have much more to gain in retaining the governor than producing a senator. What I have done in Ohaozara no senator can do it.
“So am appealing to us and to those who are supporting me genuinely to queue behind my reelection and leave the Senate for Afikpo bloc.
” All your elected political office holders, staring from Hon.Abaa Linus , to the Deputy Speaker of our House of Assembly and also Valentine Okike, have all done well.I am appealing that they should be allowed to return along with me because we all came on the same platform of Divine Mandate and we should all go back.
“I am assuring you that God willing,in 2023 when I will be bowing out,I will bow with all of them”.
