Baseball instructors USA have concluded a 10-day coaching clinic in Ibadan.
The coaching clinic, attended by over 100 children and coaches from seven chartered leagues; Owena LL of Akure, Ekiti Kete LL of Ekiti, Oyemekun LL of Akure, Kwara Sliders LL, Oluyole Plate Burners LL of Ibadan, Acumen LL of Ibadan and Excellers LL of Ibadan, was put together by Little League District 01, comprising the South West states of Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti. Addressing participants at the end of the clinic, Coach Gerard Hall of DC Knight of USA, urged coaches to be devoted to their callings and show discipline in bringing up their players.
He said Little League International is a very thorough organisation that pays attention to proper documentation and integrity, noting that these values will assist the team that Nigeria will present at the regional tournament in Poland, July 2018. He asked the coaches to apply all they have learnt in the last 10 days during the clinic.
Coach Raymond Thomas, a US-baseball coach, who represented Little League International and one of the resource persons for the camp, said he was impressed with the behavior of the Nigerian players who attended the programme.
He observed that there was no pretense about their behaviours and promised to get more baseball equipment for the Nigerian teams when he returns to the USA.
He said he will be glad if a team from Nigeria can make it to the regional championships next year July in Europe and the World Series in August holding in Pennsylvania, USA.
Certificates were presented to 21 baseball coaches who attended event from different parts of South West of the country.
