About seventeen thousand widows have been penciled to benefit from the widow empowerment program of Matthew and Yemisi Ashimolowo.
Speaking at press briefing in Lagos, the founders of Kingsway International Churches, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo said everything has been put in place to ensure the success of the empowerment ceremony.
According to him, the Widows empowerment event is scheduled to holds this weekend, Saturday at the Kings University Campus, Odeomu in Aiyedaade local government area LGA adding that women from communities like Isokan, Ikire, Apomu, Ikoyi, Oshogbo, ile-ife, Modakeke and Odeomu will be empowered with funds and clothing materials among other things.
He said in the company of his lieutenants Pastor Femi Faseru, Sam Tosin-Vincent and the outreach coordinator, Lara Odebunmi that he and his wife, Yemisi for twelve years have been hosting widows and empowering them at his hometown, Odeomu.
The Clergy said, “This year’s event is a record breaking event of celebrating seventeen thousand widows. Twelve is a significant number in the journey of life and also in this outreach we celebrate twelve years of grace and continual empowerment of widow’s outreach.
“Interestingly we started with 350 widows in 2005 and now by the blessings of Jehovah, we are feeding and blessing 17,000 widows from different widow networks and diverse places. Interestingly, sixty percent of the widows are Muslims and we believe God is the husband to widows hence, our intervention.”
Odeomu which houses Kings University has received hundreds of students and a great number are on scholarship from Matthew Ashimolowo.
According to reports, the ministry has set aside between fifty-five million naira for this year’s empowerment project.
