The new Commissioner of police for Akwa Ibom command Mr. Adeyemi Samuel Ogunjemilusi who resumed duty yesterday, has read the riot act to criminals in the State and assured the people of safety..

Adeyemi who gave the assurance yesterday in Uyo during his maiden press briefing at the command headquarters Ikot Akpan-Abia explained that the enormous responsibility on the command is to ensure safety and security of every one and make the state the first destination of choice for tourists and investors.

The new CP, who solicited the support and cooperation from all stakeholders and the people of the state, warned criminals and criminally minded elements to flee the state.

He said: “The constitution places on our shoulder the duties of protection of lives and properties among other duties. You will however agree with me that the police require the collaboration of all stakeholders to succeed in this arduous task.

‘’ I am assuring the people of the state of my readiness to make the state one of the safest state in the country’’.

The new CP who said that he has reviewed the security architecture of the entire state and has brainstorm with his officers to reposition the command for effective service delivery said he has ordered security to be beefed around Ikot Ekpene prison where there was a jail break last week.

Adeyemi who said that the police under his watch would not tolerate any form of extra judicial killing warned youths of the state to shun cultism and other violent crime and advised them to engage in productive ventures to better their lives rather than taking to crime.

‘’I am a youth friendly policeman, because I was once a student union leader in my days at school, so I intend to provide an enabling environment for the youths in the state to enable them engage in productive and profitable ventures rather than Cultism and restiveness’’ he stated.
