Senator Melaye Celebrates Birthday, Visits Orphans, IDPs

Dino Melaye

The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district in the Senate, Senator Dino Melaye, on Sunday celebrated his birthday anniversary with a Special Thanksgiving Service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Central Parish, Wuse 2, Abuja.

Thereafter Melaye proceeded to the Abuja Children’s Home in Karu and the IDPs Camp at New Kuchingoro, behind Games Village, Abuja, where he donated food items, consumables and toiletries, among others to the orphans and IDPs respectively, after which they also separately joined him in cutting his birthday anniversary cake.

Earlier at the church service, the multiple-award winning lawmaker appreciated God for giving him and his family the divine grace to escape two assassination attempts, the first in his country home of Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu local government area of Kogi state and the second at the front of Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja, all in 2017.

He noted that apart from the failed physical attempts on his life, he also survived character assassination attempts which included the allegation that he did not graduate from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, and the initiation of a fake process to recall him back from the Senate orchestrated by his political detractors.

“By June 12, 2017, there was another assassination attempt where few people died. They opened fire in the afternoon, they opened fire on me and rounds of bullets were released, yet this same God protected me.

“That had barely ended, then there was the certificate saga that I didn’t go to school. It raged on as if heaven was going to come down, but Jehovah God came down again and justified Himself in my life.

“They started the agenda to recall me and I say it is God that called me, those who did not call me cannot recall me and God again manifested Himself,” Melaye narrated.

He however added that, despite the political tribulations of 2017, it was in the same year that he was adjudged the Best Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by Senate Press Corps for the second time in row.

The lawmaker said for all his triumphs, he was determined to show appreciation to God by coming to the sanctuary, where he rolled on the floor, sang and danced to appreciate the Almighty God for His benevolence.

For his part, the presiding Pastor of the church, Pastor Emmanuel Ibitayo, while joining Senator Melaye in appreciating God, said the popular lawmaker did not escape attacks just because he was smart but by the special grace and divine protection of God.

He therefore urged the congregation to pray for Melaye and others serving in government for God’s guidance and protection their callings.

Present at the church service were Melaye’s immediate family members, aides, political associates and his colleagues in the Senate including Senators Atai Aidoko, Emmanuel Paulker and Rafiu Adebayo.
