Handshake Across Niger: Ebonyi Opts Out Over Marginalization



The Ebonyi state Governor, Chief David Umahi yesterday said th state would not be participating in the proposed handshake across the Niger meeting organized by the Nzuko Umunna, an Igbo socio-cultural organization and the Afanifere organization to extra the past, present and future of Igbo’s and Yoruba relationship and seek for ways to boast it.

Governor Umahi who made the position known when he received the local organizing committee of the group led by the Chairman and Chief Executive of Capital Oil, Chief Ifeanyi Uba at the State Executive Council government house Abakaliki.

Governor Umahi who frowned at the composition of the organizing committee regretted that among the Igbos serious marginalization still exist adding that when issues concerning the zone are brought before the table, Ebonyi people are marginalized and are seen as lesser people.

He insisted that the state would not be sending any delegation to the event to register its greviance and dissatisfaction against the organizers of the event adding that bearly 24 hours to the programme, the organization deemed it fit to come to Ebonyi state to inform and brief him on the program.

Governor Umahi also used the forum to express regret how Igbo business men jump from one political party to another and urged every member of the group to first resign from active politics before speaking for the Igbos.

He noted that many Igbo business mogul because of their involvement in politics and criticism to government at the center and different state belittle themselves and are arrested and detained by security agencies.

Governor Umahi called on the organizers to go back and put their house in order adding that Nzuko Umunna should be an organization of notable personalities from the region.

The leader of the delegation, Chief Ifeanyi Uba said that they were in the state to brief the Governor on the success so far made and seek his support and corporation.

He noted that the program is expected to take place in Enugu with the families of General Aguinyi Ironsi and that of Major Fajuyi in attendance.

Chief Uba further stated that the Oni of Ife would led delegation from the Yoruba land while Obi of Onitsha would led the delegation of South East traditional rulers adding that Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose would led other South West governor’s. Ends.
