Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa

Bello has expressed worry over the spate of abandoned plots and

uncompleted projects in the FCT.

Speaking at the end of the first FCT executive council meeting, Bello

noted that abandoned and uncompleted projects in the city centres have

the implications of affecting the aesthetics and security in the city.

The minister therefore directed the Abuja Metropolitan Management

Council (AMMC) and other organs of the administration to implement the

report of a committee on the problem of uncompleted and abandoned

buildings in the nation’s capital.

He also called on the newly-constituted FCT Internal Revenue Service

(FCT IRS) to lead the way in generating additional revenue to fund

infrastructural development in territory.

The minister also urged all members of the executive council to rise

up to the challenge of running a working city, where the laws are

enforced and revenues due the administration are collected.

Earlier in her presentation, the director, FCT Urban and Regional

Planning Department, Mrs. Zaliha-u Ahmed had identified some

challenges in the implementation of the Abuja Master plan.

Some of the problems, according to Ahmed, include unprecedented

population explosion, land use conversion and distortion,

non-adherence to the provisions of planning laws and regulations,

funding challenges and resettlement issues, among others.
