The wife of Edo Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, on Sunday, visited the first baby to be delivered by a Libya returnee, who put to bed at the Central Hospital Benin, few hours after she arrived the state.

Mrs Obaseki who showered the baby with gift items worth thousands of naira, reiterated the government support towards the rehabilitation and resettlement of indigenes of the state returnees from Libya.

Mrs Obaseki said life of every indigene of the state is of utmost importance to the government and as such, would be jealously protected by the state.

She said she was elated with the news of the birth of the baby, hence, her decision to see the mother, 24-years-old, Augustina Omorodion and the baby herself.

According to her, “It is an exciting moment for us all and we are here to rejoice with the mother who just told me she was in prisons for two months with her pregnancy before being brought back home to Nigeria last week.

“We thank God that she was brought home just few days before the baby arrived, it would have been a terrible experience if she have had the baby in prisons.

“We also thank our government for being an instrument to deliver and bless our these people. I want to also commend the wonderful job the task force is doing as regards the returnees.”

The Chairman of the state task force on Anti Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration, Prof Yinka Omoregbe, described the birth of the baby as a “Prophetic Sign.”

She said like other returnees, the government have the same plans for mothers and their babies.

“Government looks after heavily pregnant persons. They are brought to the hospital and are cared for until they have babies. Those that still have some time to go, are kept for a while and brought to hospital when they are due.

“We are very much happy to have our first baby and we think it is a very beautiful prophetic sign. It is also good that she is healthy. They are returnees, so we have just the same plan for them and their babies like we have for others,” she stated.

Omorodion who was full of praises for the governor’s wife, expressed surprise over the visit.
