Over 120,000 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, led by Senator Bashir Lado Muhammad, yesterday switched their loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kano.
Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, told thousands of APC supporters gathered at the event that the opposition PDP was dead in Kano, and was no longer relevant in the political trend in Kano.
Ganduje, who led APC chieftains to witness the defection of Senator Muhammed from PDP to APC, alongside 120,000 others, said the mass defection from the PDP to the ruling party was an indication that the people in the opposition had begun to reckon with the sterling performance of his administration.
Ganduje, who addressed the mammoth crowd at Sani Abacha stadium, said that Lado would bring along his vast wealth of experience into Kano APC.
According to him, Lado is accompanied by staunch PDP stalwarts who will enrich the ranks of the ruling APC in the state.
He further stated the crisis bedeviling the party in the state had been resolved, adding that the emergence of Engineer Bashir Karaye marked the end of APC leadership tussle in the state.
According to him, the defection of the senator would add value to the prospects of the ruling APC in the forth coming elections in the state.
He also assured the people of Kano State that projects abandoned by his predecessors will be completed during his administration, adding that other projects initiated by his administration will also be completed.
Ganduje thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for paying a visit to the state recently.
APC chieftain, General Mamman Magoro, who represented President Buhari, read a letter addressed to the new entrants. President Buhari welcomed the senator to APC with a pledge to host him at the presidential villa, Abuja, soon.
APC national chairman, chief John Oyegun, who was represented by the deputy national chairman, Chief Segun Oni, formally received the new entrants into APC.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Lado Muhammad expressed his joy over the huge crowd that comprised top party men and women, from within and outside Kano, who thronged the stadium to witness his defection.
He promised to invest his vast experience to ensure the success of his new party, APC, in all spheres of its political endeavour.
