Traditional rulers in Egor local government area of Edo State, have placed curses on homosexuals and same-sex marriages in an effort to curb increase in the rate of homosexuality in the area.

The Ochie Egor, Chief Nathaniel Enyeula, who spoke to newsmen at Egor, said the traditional institution and police authorities are working round the clock to arrest the spread of this menace which at present is at sinister speed.

Enyeula, who is also Chairman of Egor Traditional Rulers Council, said the chiefs courted the services of the Priest of Owema , the highest deity in Egor for traditional libations.

He stated that the chiefs, aided by the police for protection, moved from one family to another between the hours of 12 midnight to 1:00am, according to their tradition where their children have been involved in homosexuality, but failed to renounce pouring libation.

Egor is notorious for homosexuality which is described an abomination in Nigeria.

In February 10, 2016, four gay couple Emmanuel Okafor and Abraham Richard, Ebendu John and Okpara Imo were reportedly arrested by the police over homosexuality.

However, Emmanuel Okafor and Abraham Richard, who the Police Area Commander, CSP Ekor Ukpeh described as leaders of a gang of sodomists, jumped bail and still on police wanted list.

Ukpeh, who displayed photographs of the duo before newsmen at Egor, said once they are re-arrested it would send fears into those still committing “this shameful act against nature”.

He called on the public to provide useful information to the police on whereabout of same-sex couples.
