The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that it will begin Yellow Fever Vaccination Campaign in 288 political wards in 25 local government areas of Borno state.

The 10 days vaccination campaign which will be carried out by over 3000 WHO ad-hoc Staff and Staff will focus on the internally Displaced persons ( IDPs) , because of their vulnerability and exposure to diseases as a result of the condition of the camps.

This was disclosed on Friday by the WHO Field Communication Officer, Dr. Chima Onuekwe at an interrractive forum with Journalists on the events ahead , in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

” This is going to happen in the officially recognised IDPs camps . It begins on 5th and ends on 14th February this year and 288 political wards from 25 local government areas of Borno state will benefit from the 10 Days vaccination campaign,” Dr Onekwe said.

He added that the vaccination campaign will target Persons of age bracket of 9 months to 45 years , saying that the peculiarity of emergency situation of the displaced persons is the reason for the focus of the vaccination programmed at IDPs camps.

” We left the remaining two Local government areas of Marte and Abadam because of the inaccessibility of the areas. We are working with other partners ensure that the IDPs are free from diseases. Inadequate vaccines , adequate funds and lack of reported case fever in other areas of the state is most reason for our concentrattion on the IDPs.
