Elder statesman and former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, yesterday said that there is no Northern region without Benue State.
Former Governor Bafarawa who stated this during his condolence visit to Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom in Makurdi, maintained that Benue had produced great sons like JS Tarka, whose foresight have played active roles in uniting the north, when the entire north was in disarray.
According to him, it is a shame and unfortunate that the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbe, who is the son of the state could not put his head together with the government to come out with what will be the solution to the merciless killings in the state and the country, rather, he is busy talking about the establishment of Cattle Colonies, while the State government is for cattle ranch.
“I don’t see any reason why we should be killing ourselves. I can say categorically that these killings are politically motivated because the Fulani we knew do not carry AK47 in rearing cattle but a mere stick. What I believe is that these killers are foreigners because those foreign Fulani do not even understand our Fulani language in Nigeria, they don’t even speak Hausa which is our common language here, so this problem is not a Benue problem it is our collective problem and the federal government should put in more efforts to bring a lasting solution to this killings in Benue and other states of the federation.”
Alhaji Bafarawa, who said he was in the state to not for political reasons but to commiserate with the government and people of the state, while condemning the killings called on the federal government first of all, think about the unity and peace of the country before thinking about 2019 because no election will succeed in the atmosphere of chaos.
White donating N10 million for the welfare of the internally displaced persons IDOs, Alhaji Bafarawa appealed to the FG to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act for onward prosecution.
Responding governor Samuel Ortom commended the former governor for his visit and consoling words blame those saddled with the responsibility of manning the country’s borders for not leaving up to their responsibility.
How can people just come into the country with sophisticated weapons and attack indigenes of that country without any arrest and in the first place how did they come in, do they have valid papers? Are there cattle disease free? All these things have to be check at the border before allowing cattle breeders into the country, but I think our borders are porous.
“It is only in Nigeria that herdsmen have turn themselves into demi gods because of the inaction of the federal government. I feel sad that it is worrisome that it is only in Nigeria that foreigners will enter with sophisticated weapons and kill the indigenes of the country and go free and what the minister will say is that those that are being killed and the ones alive should learn how to live with foreigners, up till now I am confuse about what the minister really mean by such unguided utterances.”
