D’Tigers head coach, Alex Nwora is certain that his team will qualify for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China regardless of some of his best hands missing out for the qualifying campaign in Mali.

Nigeria are drawn in Group B and will take on hosts Mali, Rwanda and Uganda for the FIBA qualifiers in a bid to secure a place in the 12-team second round of the African Qualifiers which is schedule to Kick off from February 23 to 25, 2018 in Bamako

Nwora said the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) could not invite some of his key players for the qualifiers due to the new qualification rules.

“It was tough to getting key players with leagues across the world already in full swing.

“Active players in their respective clubs, who are available, have been invited to represent Nigeria. We have a very formidable team that I believe will sail through during the qualifiers,” Nwora told NBBF media

Nwora invited two players from the triumphant team that won 2015 AfroBasket Championship and five from the squad that won silver in Senegal in 2017 to his preliminary squad for the qualifiers.

At the end of the qualifying games, only five teams will represent Africa in the 2019 FIBA World Cup which will take place from August 31 to September 15 in China.
